New Resources Available: Helping Iowans Navigate the Disability and Behavioral Health Systems
May 15, 2025
At ASK Resource Center, we're excited to share two new one-pagers From The Iowa department of Health and Human services.
These resources were designed to help Iowa families better understand system changes. The coordination of disability services will move from MHDS regions to Disability Access Points (DAPS) who will be part of the state’s Aging and Disability Resource network (ADRC) beginning July 1, 2025. Also beginning July 1, 2025, Mental Health and Substance Use Services will be combined into one system, now called the Behavioral Health Service System.
This resource provides a clear snapshot of Iowa’s four key entry points to disability services. Whether you're navigating school supports, adult services, or community-based programs, this document outlines who to contact and what they provide.
This one-pager offers a simplified explanation of Iowa’s behavioral health service system for children and youth, outlining how services are accessed, the roles of state departments, and key points of contact.
